About

I’m Michael, a student and amateur photographer based in Oxford. I focus on capturing the traditions and vestiges of the past that constantly surround us in our daily lives.

I aim to photograph the relationship between historical places and modern people, precisely the ways in which we are bound to the people of the past by shared space, assumed roles, and continuous chains of tradition. I also enjoy highlighting costume that is used to convey identity and mark one’s social, ceremonial, and ritual relationship to the wider community.

I have studied Archaeology, Assyriology, and Classics, and my academic interests have frequently brought me to places such as Rome and Avebury, where my studies inform my photography of antique architecture and art. I often try to capture quiet and dignified scenes in which art is seemingly removed from its museum context and people are allowed an intimate moment with their surroundings.
